If my artwork were a plate of delicious confectionary, it would be full of texture, color and most certainly would satisfy your tastebuds! I draw inspiration from my unique lifestyle and surroundings, living on the edge of the Caribbean Sea in Puerto Rico while often traveling to the high Rocky Mountains of my native Utah or walking the quiet native villages of southern France. Having spent most of my life in Utah, I love the mountains. I have a strong pioneer heritage that began in the West. There’s nothing like a crisp fall day in an Aspen grove, quietly listening to the quaking, golden leaves in the wind. When my husband said we were moving to Puerto Rico, I didn’t think I could live without my mountains! Surprising to me, I have felt that same inspiration and awe from the rich Caribbean blues. I love to walk the 500 year old cobblestone streets of Old San Juan. The Spanish Colonial architecture radiates from the central plaza or plaza mayor. The small walled city is full of brightly stuccoed shops in blues and greens and pinks! It’s an artists paradise. Endless colorful outdoor cafe’s with the beautiful Puerto Rican Flag hanging in the background.
I was the child that was always creating and crafting and coloring. As I matured my mother urged me to follow in my Great Aunts footsteps and begin my artists journey in watercolors. I have been blessed to have a husband and four children that encourage me to paint and follow my passion into the world of professional painting. My 30 years of painting and worldwide traveling are captured uniquely by my artist brush.
I enjoy a wide range of painting styles. My signature watercolors of architecture and landscapes are distinguished by labor intensive details, whereas my acrylic paintings are often loose and impressionistic. I have been urged by others to stay within one medium and style, but that would be like taking my paints away! When I look at seascapes or clouds or architecture, I envision them in a particular medium. Next comes the excitement and challenge to make that vision come to life, whether it’s on a gallery wrapped canvas or cold pressed, 1401b-300 g/m watercolor paper. It’s all an organized process that gives me the advantage of looking at this world from a different point of view.
